The Walking Dead pilot gets a black & white upgrade

New poster debut at Comic-Con.

The biggest criticism lobbed at AMC’s The Walking Dead is that it never surpassed the raw beauty of Frank Darabont’s pilot episode. It was literally the perfect launching pad, managing to breathe life into highly derivative material.

The first Blu-Ray release is only a few months old, but those double-dipping bastards at Anchor Bay have announced a special edition package that is set to drop sometime before Season 2 starts. This is the box set you wanted the first time around.

The biggest draw is a black and white print of Darabont’s pilot. The director has done this before, with his criminally underrated horror film The Mist, and the gimmick is truly inspired. It’ll just bring the pilot closer to the stark nihilism of Night of the Living Dead, which is ideal for a series riding on George Romero’s coattails.

This special edition release will hit American shelves in October, so hopefully the UK won’t be too far behind. The features (old and new):
